Defeating Darwing in 4 easy steps-Creationist stupidity!

Some guy, a Mr. Bryan Fischer, has written an “Idiot’s guide to refuting evolution in 4 easy steps” under the catchy title of “Defeating Darwin in 4 easy steps“. PZ Myers, over at Pharyngula (one the best blogs on the web!) has written an extensive refutation of the cretin’s creationists guide. PZ has done an excellent job at shooting down the cretin’s childish, already refuted and shown to be false, arguments, as such I don’t need to go over them in detail myself. I suggest everyone read both the original stupidity and the following bitch slapping PZ delivers. However, just to give you an idea of the level of ignorance and lack of reasoning skills here’s a paragraph from the actual cretinist blog:

Before we even start, we ought to notice that, if evolution is true, there would be no way to know it. Because evolution teaches that everything that exists is the product of the random collision of atoms, this logically includes the thoughts I am thinking about evolution. But if my thoughts are the product of the random collision of atoms, there is no reason to think that any of them are true — they just are.

Everything that exists is the product of random collision of atoms?. His thoughts must be true? This is the kind of bullshit philosophical exercise that has no real bearing upon science. For some reason Cretinists think that they can philosophize away science from the comfort of their armchairs. Shit, about 200 years of scientific work on evolutionary biology and this genius was able to blow it all apart with a simple thought exercise. Boy those scientists must be red faced right now!

But the stupidity does not end here. His first two “steps” are the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics, and as you read through them you can’t help but notice that his arguments have really nothing to do with Evolution.

First Law of Thermodynamics. This law (note: not a theory but a scientific law) teaches us that matter and energy can neither be created nor destroyed. In other words, an honest scientist will tell you that there is nothing in the observable universe that can explain either the origin of energy or matter. By logical extension, then, matter and energy had to come into being by some force outside the universe.

If you read the rest of it he goes on to talk about how the Big Bang does not make sense….to him! What does that have to do with Evolution? Nothing whatsoever. He’s arguing about the first cause, the beginning of the universe and matter. Evolution does not concern itself with that. It concerns itself with the evolution of life; it already assumes matter exists. So this moron isn’t even arguing against the thing he’s claiming to be arguing against in his catchy title.

Second Law of Thermodynamics. This law (note: not a theory but a law) teaches us that in every chemical or heat reaction, there is a loss of energy that never again is available for another heat reaction. This is why things break down if left to themselves, and why scientists tell us that the universe is headed toward a heat death..

What he’s not talking about are closed and open systems. An excellent refutation of this often used cretinist argument can be found at the Talk Origins website.

The 3rd and 4th “steps” talk about how “all” evolutionary biologists have to offer is the fossil record and gene theory. The fossil record is it. There is nothing else Darwinists can show you. Except for gene theory and molecular biology and all the other neat stuff PZ talks about of course. The funny thing is that this moron is attacking evolutionary biology for lack of sufficient physical evidence, and what does he have to offer for his hypothesis. Absolutely nothing! Nada, zilch!

Regarding genes he says a lot but this paragraph is quite telling:

The problem: naturally occurring genetic mutations are invariably harmful if not fatal to the organism. Rather than improve an organism’s capacity to survive, they invariably weaken it. That’s why the phrase we most often use to refer to genetic mutations is “birth defects.”

Of course that is bullshit, and specifically because he chooses to inject the word “invariably” in there. There is not doubt that lots of mutations are harmful, “birth defects”. In fact, when that is the case Natural Selection will not favor that organism and the mutation will die out. But where is he getting that all mutations are harmful? PZ has a beautiful little calculation of the mutations that Mr. Fischer carries in his own body, something to the tune of over 100 “Birth Defects”. And I believe some of those defects are in this cretins brain.

So how do you deal with this level of stupidity? How do you deal with someone who uses the products of science (computers, internet!) to refute science itself? I don’t know but ridicule seems to work best. So whenever someone comes up to you with this unfailing list of 4 steps, just point to them (which finger you want to use is up to you, but I do suggest we keep it civil and use the index) and laugh, laugh, laugh.
